This jar was gifted to Isabella by Okakura Kakuzo, a Japanese art historian and philosopher. Crafted in a porcelain workshop in Seto, the decoration imitates the Chinese porcelain style know as Shonzui, introduced to Japan in the 17th century. Object: Japanese, Freshwater Jar with Lid, 19th century, porcelain with cobalt pigment under clear glaze and lacquered lid.
