  • Philbrick Elementary School reviewed by a parent

My daughter has attended this school since K2 and has received a stellar education. The teachers are competent and have good classroom control, the principal is energetic and empathetic, and the school has a real community feel.

The Philbrick is a great little school. My child is in his third year there and we couldn't be happier. Caring and capable teachers, a friendly student body, engaged parents, and a great before/after-school program are just a handful of the things that make the school a wonderful place for fun and learning.

When we first started looking at schools for our son 6 years ago, I couldn t go anywhere without hearing parents talk about the Philbrick. For the last few years the Philbrick has been flying under the radar and we re not sure why. We are so happy that our son (3rd grade) and daugher (K2) are there together now. We would love for you to come check us out! We have an enthusiastic new principal who is thoughtful, responsive to parents, and warm with students. The school is small and students are well known by a healthy balance of veteran and new-to-the school teachers who collaborate to bring fresh ideas and energy into the classrooms. Our kids rave about the school s new science and technology teacher, there is a really engaging music teacher, and last year our son s class was a part of this amazing year-long book project in partnership with 826 Boston. See here: https://vimeo.com/218857118 There is also a wonderful (and very flexible!) before and after school program run by former Philbrick parents, where kids can be kids. It s unstructured but there are also opt-in electives like Wacky Science and Seasonal Cooking throughout the year. My kids love, love, love before and after school. In a city like Boston, it s nice to have a small school where everyone -- students, staff, families -- knows your name. Come check us out!
