A report by the Center for Retirement Researc...

A report by the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College says life expectancy for women in the U.S. has stalled, leaving American females at the bottom of the list of the wealthiest nations.

Why American women are dying younger
American women may be making strides in shattering the glass ceiling of the executive office and making it clear that sexual harassment is not OK. But in one very significant -- perhaps the most important -- aspect of their lives, they're falling short.

What would college rankings look like in an artificial intelligence assessment? Take a look.

College Rankings Revisited: What Might an Artificial Intelligence Think? -
This post is from guest contributor Steve Lattanzio from MetaMetrics. While we do not tend to cover college rankings at e-Literate, we do care about transparency in usage of data as well as understanding opportunities where technology and data might inform students, faculty, administrators and the general educational community.

Earth and Environmental Sciences researcher P...

Earth and Environmental Sciences researcher Paul K. Strother and a team of scientists have discovered evidence that primitive moths and butterflies existed during the Jurassic period, approximately 50 million years before the first flowering plants. Their report, published in Scientific Advances, sheds new light on one of the most confounding cases of co-evolution. Read more in The New York Times:

Finding the Oldest Fossils of Butterflies Using a Human Nose Hair
But in analyzing the murky solution they stumbled upon a new mystery: several unknown scales were left behind in the gunk. The team soon discovered that the scales belonged to long extinct relatives of modern butterflies and moths. Mr. van Eldijk was tasked with fishing out more, and for that job he was given a dissection probe with a single nostril hair.

We have joined efforts with Fenway Community ...

We have joined efforts with Fenway Community Development Corporation on a campaign regulate corporate short-term rentals. There is increasing evidence that nightly rental platforms such as AirBnB, as well as corporate short-stays, take apartments off the long-term rental market and are a factor in driving up rents to unaffordable levels. This is why we have launched a postcard campaign to support legislation from Rep. Aaron Michlewitz (H.3454). For more information on how to get involved in this statewide campaign, or to sign a postcard, please email or call Jason Desrosier at Desrosier@allstonbrightoncdc.org or (617) 787-3874 x206. We will be dropping off the postcards to City Hall and the State House in February.
