The Board of Appeals yesterday approved a six-story, 24-unit apartment building on Dorchester Avenue where it enters Andrew Square. Developer Christopher Roche's building would include ground-floor restaurant space. The building will have no parking, both because of its location on the other side of the square from the Red Line stop. The BPDA approved the project last month. Of the 24 apartments, 22 would be one-bedroom units between 502 and 581 square feet and two studios of less than 345 square feet. Four of the units will be marketed as affordable. Nobody spoke in opposition to the proposal; representatives of several elected officials said the local civic association is looking forward to the replacement of the current auto-glass garage as a way of helping to revive Andrew Square.

The Davis Cos., Chinese Consolidated Benevole...

The Davis Cos., Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association of New England, and Boston Chinese Evangelical Church got the green light for a three-building complex on Shawmut Avenue that will include 536 apartments and condos — at least 139 of them set aside for low- and moderate-income residents — along with a new church, community space, and a park. The partnership between Davis — a large, for-profit developer — and the pair of Chinatown nonprofits was a way to combine efforts and transform a full block of the formerly industrial area where the South End and Chinatown meet.

Two South End apartment complexes, including a 'millennial resort,' win approval - The Boston Globe
Two apartment developments in the South End are poised to move forward after winning approval from the Boston Planning & Development Agency Thursday evening.

“This is a demonstration that we have moved forward,” Dave Falvey, the commander of the South Boston Allied War Veterans Council, told the Globe. “It’s a different council, it’s a different parade.” The hiring of Bryan Bishop, a founder and chief executive officer of OUTVETS, a group formed in 2014 to honor the service of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer military veterans, is a major turning point for an organization that had for years kept veterans in the LGBTQ community from marching in the parade.

The leader of a organization representing veterans who identify as LGBTQ will oversee planning for next year's South Boston's St. Patrick's Day Parade, marking a dramatic break in an annual event that gained national notoriety for efforts to bar gay veterans from marching.
