Landscape architecture is a real art form, but it wasn’t recognized as such until the early 1900s. Isabella, always ahead of the game, constructed her Museum and its lush Courtyard to be impeccably designed and aesthetically beautiful. 🌸

These remnants of Reims Cathedral look more like a Mondrian painting than Gothic stained glass! After being destroyed in WWI, an American ambulance driver collected some of the pieces and had them reset. He then gifted the glass to Isabella in 1919. Object: French, Fragments from Reims Cathedral, 18th century, stained glass.

It’s June, it’s hot out, the sun is always shining—what better way to enjoy the summer than with a cactus?🌵 Don’t let this plant fool you, though. While it may look soft to the touch, this cactus is plenty prickly!

A courtly couple decorate the center of this Iranian ceramic plate. The Naskhi inscription around them reads, “The heart is branded with the grief of your love on its soul; separation from you makes the world like a prison; that heart that has not the patience for union with you, alas that it can suffer through separation.” 💔 Image: Iranian, Ceramic Plate: A Courtly Couple, about 1208, fritware with overglaze-painted luster design and splashes of turquoise.
