This silver and enamel opium box has Chinese poetry enameled on the sides. Around the box it reads, “Abode of the mountain resting on a cloud / A fresh rain passed over this lonely mountain, and the weather toward evening changed into autumn / Through repose become non-desiring: thus to grow no old is the way of Taoist Immortals. Written in kui-wei.” (kui-wei indicates the date). Object: Feng Hua, Opium Box, 1883, silver and enamel.

Palaver Strings Seeking Sanctuary features the stories and music of three of Boston's immigrant communities, featuring amazing guest artists. Seeking Sanctuary's Chinese set will feature Chinese folk music arranged by guest artist Zhantao Lin performed by Palaver Strings with Zhantao Lin on the erhu. A performer throughout New England, Lin joined Yo-Yo Ma in his Silk Road Project exchange program and is the founder of the Boston Erhu Ensemble.
