The jades (Crassula argentea) in the courtyard have been raised in the Museum’s greenhouse for many years. The largest of them, with trunks five to six inches in diameter, are over 60 years old! Their small starry white flowers cover their large spreading branches over three feet high.

This is the 17th century, Brandenburg family escutcheon (coat of arms). It was purchased by the actor Henry Irving (known inspiring Bram Stoker’s Count Dracula) in 1882 and then given by Irving to Isabella Stewart Gardner in 1902. The coat of arms is normally in the Museum’s Long Gallery, but is currently in our conservation labs being researched and restored.

Boston Center for the Arts 2018-2019 Visual Artist Residency Call for Applications is now live! Deadline for applications is February 19, 2018. BCA's Visual Art Residency is open to applicants whose work takes a broad range of forms, so artists with dance and movement-based practices, theatre and writing-based practices, and artists engaged in installation, sound, or other innovative media are all encouraged to apply. A key element of any application will be the connection the artist is interested in exploring between the germination and development of a rich creative idea and its active life connecting with the community outside the artist's studio.

Fall in love with BCA's first music resident Palaver Strings! Hear why on December 20 when they present "A dormir a soñar" at the Huntington Theatre. Palaver Strings, pianist Moisès Fernández Via, and participants from the Lullaby Project join forces in celebrating the power and complexity of motherhood through William Grant Still’s nostalgic Mother and Child, Chopin’s monumental Piano Concerto in E Minor, and original lullabies by new moms, written together with Palaver musicians through their chapter of the Lullaby Project.
