Art Basil: a group show by AWG members WHEN: January 12th-27th WHERE: Atlantic Works Gallery, 80 Border Street, East Boston, MA 02128 GALLERY HOURS: Fridays and Saturdays 2-6pm FOR MORE INFO (including private viewings and cookbook requests): contact Anna Salmeron at firstname.lastname@example.org or 617 913 1871, or Christine Palamidessi at Christine@palamidessi.com. ABOUT: Atlantic Works Gallery has a history of staging offbeat group shows to satisfy the moods of it's varied artist members. Previous examples include: staging the gallery as the set from Plan 9 from Outer Space and re-filming that movie in it's entirety; exploring the color yellow in a show that culminated in a formal dinner where everything - clothing, food, beverages - was yellow; and an annual event staged for over 15 years in which gallery members built giant phalluses and sacrificed them to the Gods of Creativity in an event known as Burning Manhood. So, when one of our current members told us this summer that he had climbed up a ladder at home to get basil from his rooftop garden only to fall off said ladder and bust his face up real good, we joked that the portrait he took of himself after returning from the hospital should be titled Art Basil. And then it hit us - our first 2018 group show must have Art Basil as it's theme. What better way to have some fun while challenging ourselves to create new work for the new year. As an added bonus, we are selling an Art Basil Cookbook comprised of artist recipes that incorporate basil. Nom, nom, nom...
