#TransformationTuesday Every Tuesday, our head of horticulture, Stan Kozak, and his expert team go out and spruce up the Courtyard. New species are brought in every month, which requires meticulous planning to make sure the plants are ready for their debut. 🌿

We were shocked and saddened to hear about the death of S. J. Brooks. S. J. was a valued member of the BCA staff when he worked here in 2012 as a member of our Visual Arts team. He was a kind-hearted, generous, and wonderfully creative person with a deep commitment to his work in the community. We extend our sincerest condolences to S.J.'s family and friends during this horrible time. https://www.google.com/amp/boston.cbslocal.com/2018/05/21/cougar-attack-victim-sj-brooks-washington-seattle-boston/amp/

Jordan Hall is perhaps a tad quieter this week after the pomp and circumstance of Commencement weekend, but the music continues! In today's #MusicMonday release, Emily Mariko Eng '18 MM conducts the NEC Wind Ensemble in "Music for an Indian Summer," composed by late #NECfaculty member Daniel Pinkham and featuring Elise Kolle '18 on harp. Emily and Elise both graduated yesterday—big congratulations to both of them, and to all of our #NECclassof18 graduates! 🎓🎉

Isabella disliked the mausoleum-like spaces of American museums of her time, thus she designed the flower-filled courtyard you see today!

Isabella loved modern dance, and even invited American dance pioneer Ruth St. Denis to perform at the Gardner Museum in 1908. This caused quite a scandal, as Ruth danced barefoot! 😱

We’ve been head-over-heels for Fra Angelico lately (can you blame us?) but our art collection has many more Madonnas to behold! This 16th century painting has similar radiating gold lines like the ones in Fra Angelico’s reliquaries, but the bright color palette and botanical imagery put this painting in a category all on its own.
