Dear friends of the East Boston Farmers Marke...

Dear friends of the East Boston Farmers Market, The DTA announced yesterday that, due to the overwhelming success of the Healthy Incentives Program in the past year, benefits redeemed to date have far exceeded the funding that was available. This means that the program will be suspended on April 15, 2018 and SNAP customers will no longer be able to receive reimbursements on fruit and vegetable purchases at HIP retailers like the East Boston Farmers Market. The Healthy Incentives Program, which provides a $40-80 reimbursement on fruits and vegetables purchased at an eligible Farmers Market (or CSA program or Mobile Market), has allowed many members of our community to enjoy delicious, local produce they might not otherwise have been able to afford. It also provided a great economic benefit to our farmers, whose sales and customer bases increased enormously this past year. If you are a SNAP recipient who has benefitted from HIP, or a community member who supports the initiative, please consider calling your legislator to ask them to support HIP. Detailed information about what you can do can be found here: https://mafoodsystem.org/projects/hip-indivs/ The East Boston Farmers Market's mission has always been to provide a source of healthy and affordable local foods to our neighbors, and the Healthy Incentives Program has been an incredible way to help us further that mission! Thank you for your support in making sure it continues beyond this spring!
