This is the 17th century, Brandenburg family ...

This is the 17th century, Brandenburg family escutcheon (coat of arms). It was purchased by the actor Henry Irving (known inspiring Bram Stoker’s Count Dracula) in 1882 and then given by Irving to Isabella Stewart Gardner in 1902. The coat of arms is normally in the Museum’s Long Gallery, but is currently in our conservation labs being researched and restored.

Zoning Committee: Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at 7:00 pm, at Farnsworth House, 90 South Street. The jades (Crassula argentea) in the courtyar...

The jades (Crassula argentea) in the courtyard have been raised in the Museum’s greenhouse for many years. The largest of them, with trunks five to six inches in diameter, are over 60 years old! Their small starry white flowers cover their large spreading branches over three feet high.
