Pilot of LDA 101 program, in which 11 residents in our affordable housing portfolio attended a series of workshops to further develop their leadership skills and abilities, as well as network with each other to build social capital within our buildings and the broader community..
Over the last five weeks, we piloted a Leadership Development Academy for residents living in our buildings. We had 11 residents go through workshops focused on team building, effective communication, active listening, and other foundational skills. The program culminated in a graduation and celebration, where Councilor Mark Ciommo and Councilor Annissa Essaibi George presented graduates with a Resolution welcoming them as new resident leaders. A few pics from the workshops are below- more will be posted soon!
Some residents have pushed for ground-level reconstruction, arguing that it would lower this barrier, reduce noise from vehicles revving uphill, and allow for more development in the future by creating decks over the roadways — while being the least costly of the three. “It just unlocks all these things,” said Harry Mattison, an Allston resident and member of a neighborhood task force working on the highway design. “Even if they’re not done as part of this project, they could still be done over time. But once you build a new highway viaduct, it’s there forever and you can never improve it.”
"Seeking to stem the tide of investors, Harvard [has] set aside $3 million of its community benefits package to support the All Bright Homeownership Program, an initiative to buy up homes in the area and resell them to homeowners with an owner-occupancy deed restriction, meaning that the buyer must live on the property. The program, implemented with the Allston Brighton Community Development Corporation and the City of Boston in 2015, has so far sold 13 housing units to homeowners. #homeownershipmatters
