2018 BOSTON MARATHON INFORMATION The Boston ...

2018 BOSTON MARATHON INFORMATION The Boston Marathon will be held on Monday, April 16, 2018. Please be aware of security measures the Town and Marathon organizers are implementing to enhance public safety along the Marathon route. Beacon Street: The eastbound side of Beacon Street will be barricaded at both curbs for the entire length of Beacon St. The corridor will be connected to the City of Boston barricade plan at both Cleveland and Audubon Circle. ALL vehicular traffic will be restricted from traveling on or across Beacon St beginning at 8:30am. Beacon St. is expected to be closed until approximately 6:30pm. Pedestrian Crossings: Due to the interlocking barricades system, accessing Beacon St. from the north and south sides will be limited. There will be limited-to-no crossing allowed between 12:00pm-3:30pm when runner volume is heavy. Pedestrian crossing will be restricted to three areas in and around commercial districts. They will be staffed and controlled by race officials. These crossings are limited to: Beacon @ Tappan; Beacon @ Webster, and Beacon @ Hawes. Pedestrian access to these designated crossings will be permitted only if there is no danger/obstruction to runners. Parking: The parking reservations on both the east and westbound side of Beacon St. will be posted "Tow Zone" on Sunday, April 15th. Letters from the Transportation Department will advise permit holders; this includes Zipcar. Eastbound curbside parking will not be restricted until 3:00am on April 16th. Parking restrictions will be in place on all streets intersecting Beacon on the course side of the Street (eastbound); these zones will be clearly marked "Tow Zone". These zones will be for emergency vehicle use only. Parking restrictions in these zones will be based on the topography of the surrounding neighborhoods. Road Closures: Beacon Street eastbound will be closed to all traffic beginning at 8:30am on race day. Streets intersecting Beacon St. may be closed earlier to ensure the safety of Town and Race personnel as they set up the course. Beacon Street will likely reopen at 6:30pm. Spectator Advisory: We would like to reiterate the MEMA Advisory: "Officials want spectators to be especially vigilant and report any suspicious items or activity. We are asking that you leave backpacks, containers with more than 1 liter of liquid, handbags or packages, bulky items, large blankets and sleeping bags, props including sporting, military and fire gear, costumes covering the face or bulky outfits and weapons at home. Spectators are also encouraged to carry their items in clear plastic bags." To contact the Brookline Police dial 617-730-2222 or 911 in case of an emergency. There will be additional police officers and town officials along the marathon route to ensure all safety precautions are followed. Our goal is to provide an enjoyable environment that is safe and secure for all spectators as they take part in one of the most anticipated events of the year. Your cooperation implementing and following safety and security protocols is greatly appreciated. March 2018 in Review, From Lobster Rolls to Soup Dumplings

Bab Korean Bistro (1374 Beacon St., Coolidge Corner, Brookline): Brookline doesn’t have much of a Korean restaurant scene yet, so it’s good that Bab’s menu is extensive, running the gamut from bibimbap and Korean barbecue to tteokbokki and sundubu-jjigae.

This article has 17 other Boston locations (Show)

Celeste (21 Bow St., Union Square, Somerville): Dine on ceviche, lomo saltado, and other Peruvian cuisine at this cozy new Somerville spot, and don’t forget to get a pisco- or mezcal-based cocktail as well.

Humaari at Wink & Nod (3 Appleton St., South End, Boston): Wink & Nod’s latest long-term culinary pop-up incubatee is a hummus-oriented Mediterranean project from Tavern Road’s Louis DiBiccari. It’ll be running through mid-September.

Il Mondo Pizzeria (738 Huntington Ave., Mission Hill, Boston): The Mission Hill location of this local pizza joint closed at the end of 2017, but now it’s back in the neighborhood, located in the former Grub space. There’s also a location closer to Berklee.

Naukabout Brewing (13 Lake Ave., Mashpee): There’s a new taproom in town, and it features water views, a seven-barrel brewhouse, and a beer lineup that includes a New England IPA, a triple dry-hopped double IPA, and more.

One Ramen & Sushi (1759 Massachusetts Ave., Porter Square, Cambridge): This new ramen and sushi restaurant took over the former Super Fusion space.

Pokéworks (1440 Massachusetts Ave., Harvard Square, Cambridge): This is the second local outpost for the expanding national poke chain; it’s also in Somerville’s Davis Square.

Porto Maltese (1634 Beacon St., Washington Square, Brookline): The longtime Fireplace space is now home to a Mediterranean seafood restaurant with a variety of fish and a variety of ways in which it can be prepared. One option: Provide your own recipe.

Pot Bar (70 Brighton Ave., Allston, Boston): No, it’s not what it sounds like; it’s a hot pot restaurant that features individual portions for those who love hot pot but want the pot all to themselves.

Saigon Chicken House (223 Adams St., Dorchester, Boston): This new Vietnamese restaurant in Fields Corner serves pho, Napoleon beef, and more.

Shredded (246 W. Broadway, South Boston): Sort of a local take on Sweetgreen, serving salads as well as noodle bowls.

Southern Proper (50 Malden St., South End, Boston): Fried chicken, biscuits, hushpuppies, and more Southern goodness in a cavernous space that smells of pine.

Tasty Thai (153 Belgrade Ave., Roslindale): This new Thai restaurant took over the Seven Star Street Bistro space.

Bertucci’s (533 Commonwealth Ave., Kenmore Square, Boston; 380 Washington St., Wellesley): Two of three recent closures for the longtime local pizzeria chain.

The Gate (3171 Washington St., Jamaica Plain, Boston): After less than a year in business, this Irish pub shuttered without warning, shortly after St. Patrick’s Day. The building — the restaurant as well as several residential units — is for sale.

Jimmy John’s (512 Park Dr., Fenway, Boston): Boston’s small number of Jimmy John’s locations (an Illinois-based sandwich shop) has gotten even smaller.

Outback Steakhouse (1212 Providence Hwy., Norwood): Not a good month for chains, apparently. The “Australian” steakhouse only has a few local outposts left (Somerville, Peabody, Randolph, Hanover).

Trillium Beer Garden at the Substation (4228 Washington St., Roslindale): No surprise here as this was always just meant to be a seasonal pop-up (and a popular one), but the Roslindale Trillium location is now closed.

March 2018 in Review, From Lobster Rolls to Soup Dumplings
Lots of new restaurants popped onto the scene in March 2018, serving up Peruvian food in Somerville, Korean food in Brookline, Southern food in the South End, poke in Cambridge, and more.

Devour these savory dishes to celebrate National Pi Day

And for a fraction of the price of a full pie, head to Tasty Burger’s Harvard Square location (40 John F. Kennedy St., Cambridge) today for $1 4-inch mini-pies, made by Worcester’s decades-spanning family-owned Table Talk Pies, available in apple, blueberry and chocolate eclair.

Devour these savory dishes to celebrate National Pi Day
Today is National Pi Day. Math nerds, rejoice. Food fans, fret not: The only thing you'll need to calculate is how many calories you're willing to gorge. In recent years, March 14 (or 3/14) has been increasingly recognized as a (mostly tongue-in-cheek) tribute to the first three digits of the mathematical constant pi, which represents the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter.
