McMullen Museum of Art, Boston College has acquired a rich trove of Coptic textiles, and an extensive library of accompanying volumes, from collectors Donald and Barbara Tellalian of Newton, Mass. The Tellalian Collection—which comprises thirty-four Late Antique/Coptic textiles from the fourth to eighth century—is significant due to the quality, importance, and conservation of the textiles, as well as the related comprehensive library of 129 books and folios, many of which are rare volumes. Such textiles are thought to have been produced by Copts (Christian Egyptians) and other weavers throughout the Byzantine Empire. Their designs and motifs influenced the visual repertoire of the early Islamic period.

"Scripture advises us that we should turn the other cheek to violence. However, my Jesuit training has taught me that in addition to nonviolent resistance we should hit back with love. My beautiful, loving wife, Jessica, and I were blown up in the name of God. Our bodies were torn apart and our psyches shattered in the name of religion. We were casualties of a religious war. At least that’s what we were led to believe." So begins an essay Patrick Downes, a a graduate of the Boston College Lynch School of Education and a Boston Marathon bombing survivor, writes for "C21 Resources," a publication of the The Church in the 21st Century Center (C21 Center).

After I started coming here to the All Bright Community Center for Coffee Hour and then taking Financial Coaching, everything in my life started falling into place.” - Shirley A. Shirley A. has been a part of the Allston Brighton community for over 17 years. In her young 30 years of life she has had her fair share of challenges. Her 9 year old son Evan was born with cerebral palsy and epilepsy. and when he was just 3 years old, his dad died in a tragic car crash, leaving Shirley as the sole caretaker for their son. In early 2018, after a few one-on-one sessions through the Resident Services Goal Getters financial coaching program, Shirley maximized her income by landing a pre-school teacher position! Now she’s even more motivated and on to fulfilling her next goals, building her credit and getting a bigger apartment!!!
